SUMMARY: Provides general preventative dental care designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of oral disease by performing the following duties.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Support the overall mission of the K’ima:w Medical Center.
2. Under the general supervision of the Dentist, perform all aspects of clinical preventive hygiene services.
3. Provide Oral hygiene instruction, periodontal charting, prophylaxis, polishing, application of topical fluoride, pit and
Fissure sealants, root planning and curettage, intra-oral and soft tissue exam, including periodontal tissue, and apply Sodium Diamine fluoride.
4. Take and develop bitewing, periapical, and full mouth digital radiographs.
5. Maintain a clean and sterile atmosphere, instruments, and equipment.
6. Review and be familiar with the California Table of Permitted Duties.
7. Update medical history, dental conditions, diseases, and risks.
8. Complete chart notes efficiently and within the time frame of (72hrs) with correct coding and provider.
9. Serve as an oral health educator by introducing new preventative techniques and counseling.
10. Maintain the hygiene recall system.
11. Attend and provide treatment and education materials during all scheduled outreach events.
12. Administer local anesthesia.
13. Work with other staff to keep the clinic in a clean, sanitary, and presentable condition.
14. Maintains stock of hygiene supplies and instruments/equipment.
15. Recognizes and treats simple emergencies; able to perform one and two-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
16. Review and be familiar with the clinic and insurance guidelines for all periodontal procedures.
17. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A graduate of an accredited School of Dental Hygiene; clinical experience preferred.
Anesthesia License (preferred)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Current CPR Certificate within six months of hire and maintain such.
• Valid State License for Dental Hygienist. (State of California Preferred).
Anesthesia License (State of California Preferred).
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to operate and maintain standard dental equipment.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
- Ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
ANNUAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: At a minimum Employee is required to be certified for the following training 1) Health Stream courses, 2) CPR every two years, and 3) maintain CEU’s.
