K'ima:w Medical Center's Nursing Department is made up of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, certified medical assistants, medical assistants, and desk technicians.
Registered Nurses
Our nurses are continuously monitoring and evaluating patients. Their responsibilities include coordinating with multiple specialists to ensure that their patients are adequately on the road to recovery.
Their typical responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Conducting physical exams
- Taking detailed health care histories
- Listening to patients and analyze their physical and emotional needs
- Providing counseling and health care education to patients
- Coordinating care with other health care providers and specialists
- Staying current with advances in health care options, medications, and treatment plans
- Drawing blood, and perform other health-related testing
- Checking a patient’s vital signs
- Care Management
Licensed Vocational Nurses
Our licensed vocational nurses (LVN) work in our clinic under the direct supervision of KMC's Director of Nursing or a physician.
Duties and responsibilities typically include:
- Providing care for patients as the first point of contact
- Taking and monitoring patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature
- Providing comfort to patients through care, including keeping them warm, bathing, and dressing
- Changing bandages, inserting catheters, and giving injections.
- Preparing patients for treatment and surgery
- Drawing blood
- Discussing health care concerns and issues
- Reporting vital signs and condition updates to doctors and registered nurses
- Care Management
Certified Medical Assistants/Medical Assistants
Our Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) and Medical Assistants (MAs) work alongside our KMC physicians, providers, nurses, and desk technicians. They perform administrative and clinical duties to include:
- Putting patient data into a computer
- Updating patient medical records
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging hospital admissions and lab tests
- Taking medical histories
- Preparing patients for an examination
- Explaining treatment procedures
- Phlebotomy (taking blood)
- Wound care
- Taking an electrocardiogram
- Care Management
Desk Technicians
Our Desk Technician work alongside our KMC physicians, providers, CMAs, MAs, and nurses. They perform administrative duties to include:
- Performing clerical and support functions
- Assisting physicians, nurses, laboratory, social services and radiology personnel with paper work needed to facilitate patient visit in a timely manner
- Record keeping
- Telephone communications
- Clerical duties related to patient care
- Monitor the location of patients, providers, and staff
- Responsible for monitoring telephone calls and directing calls to the appropriate person or department
