Summary: The Exercise Coach supports the health and wellness of community members of all ages, with a special focus on older adults. This role blends hands-on fitness coaching, wellness
education, and community engagement. The coach will lead group classes, provide one-on-one guidance, support senior fitness and mobility programs, and assist with planning and running
community wellness events.
Functions and Responsibilities:
At KMC Community Gym the Exercise Coach is responsible for:
• Lead group fitness classes (e.g., strength, cardio, stretching, low-impact workouts).
• Provide basic one-on-one exercise guidance and equipment instruction.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming workout environment.
• Monitor participants for proper form and safety.
At KMC Community Gym the Exercise Coach is responsible for:
• Lead gentle movement classes such as chair exercises, balance training, mobility
sessions, or walking groups.
• Adapt exercises for individuals with limited mobility or chronic conditions.
• Encourage social engagement and healthy lifestyle habits.
• Collaborate with staff on wellness education topics (hydration, fall prevention, etc.).
At KMC Community Gym the Exercise Coach is responsible for:
• Assist with planning and hosting fitness demos, health fairs, and activity booths.
• Provide simple fitness assessments (optional depending on qualifications).
• Engage community members and promote healthy living resources.
Minimum Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days).
• Experience leading group activities, coaching, or working with the public.
• Ability to demonstrate safe exercise techniques.
• Comfortable working with older adults and diverse fitness levels.
• Strong communication and motivational skills.
License/Certification:
Exercise Coach
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current National fitness certification (ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA ACSM)- highly preferred
• Certification in senior fitness (e.g., SilverSneakers, Functional Aging Institute)- highly preferred.
• Valid California Driver's License
Required Skills/ Abilities:
• Ability to apply specialized knowledge related to the care of patients in American Indian/Alaska Native communities.
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
• Comfortable leading groups and speaking in front of people.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and standards of care for community members patients to promote wellness.
• Reliable, organized, and able to work independently.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences using a variety of mediums.
• Understand the social and culture context of American Indian/ Alaska Native communities served by the KMC.
• Understand HIPAA
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, supportive relationships with patients and families.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized.
• Good computer skills includes word processing, email, internet, and database usage.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employee is subject to the Hoopa Tribal Drug & Alcohol Fit for Duty Policy, and the Drug Free Workplace Act, and Title 30(A) Employment Background check.
Employees will serve a 90-day introductory period. Employees are subject to introductory and semiannual performance evaluations. Preference will be given to qualified Indian applicants
pursuant to the Tribe's TERO Ordinance.
